Verse 8 is found in chapter 28 of 1 Chronicles. David gathers Israel’s principal leaders and explains that his desire was to build a temple, but God had reserved that task for Solomon. David recalls the election of Judah, David’s house, and Solomon. The temple’s construction is presented within a history of election and covenant, not as an independent architectural initiative.
