Verse 61 is found in chapter 6 of 1 Chronicles. The remaining descendants of Kohath receive cities according to the allocations established for the Levites. The territorial distribution demonstrates that Levitical service was connected with an organized national structure. The genealogy therefore not only identifies people but explains how a religious institution could be territorially integrated among Israel’s tribes.
