And he cried against the altar in the word of the LORD, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the LORD; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men's bones shall be burnt upon thee.

Verse 2 is found in chapter 13 of 1 Kings. A man of God from Judah arrives at Bethel and announces against the altar that Josiah, centuries later, will desecrate that place. Jeroboam attempts to stop him, but his hand becomes paralyzed and is later restored when the prophet intercedes. The episode demonstrates that Jeroboam’s new religious system has no authority over the prophetic word. The king may control institutions, but he cannot silence God’s word.
