And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him.

Verse 4 is found in chapter 13 of 1 Kings. A man of God from Judah arrives at Bethel and announces against the altar that Josiah, centuries later, will desecrate that place. Jeroboam attempts to stop him, but his hand becomes paralyzed and is later restored when the prophet intercedes. The episode demonstrates that Jeroboam’s new religious system has no authority over the prophetic word. The king may control institutions, but he cannot silence God’s word.
