Verse 14 is found in chapter 16 of 1 Kings. Elah succeeds Baasha, but Zimri conspires against him and exterminates Baasha’s house. The cycle of coups accelerates, and the northern dynasties become extremely unstable. The repetition of the pattern confirms the fragility of a kingdom whose succession is repeatedly based on violence and whose idolatry remains uncorrected.
