And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

Verse 32 is found in chapter 2 of 1 Kings. Solomon removes Abiathar from the priesthood and fulfills the word previously spoken concerning the house of Eli. Joab, upon learning of Adonijah’s downfall, takes refuge at the altar, but Solomon orders his execution because of the blood he had shed. Zadok takes Abiathar’s place and Benaiah replaces Joab. The new king thus reorganizes the priestly and military structures and removes the main sources of opposition to his rule.

und der HERR bezahle ihm sein Blut auf seinen Kopf, daß er zwei Männer erschlagen hat, die gerechter und besser waren denn er, und hat sie erwürgt mit dem Schwert, daß mein Vater David nichts darum wußte: Abner, den Sohn Ners, den Feldhauptmann über Israel, und Amasa, den Sohn Jethers, den Feldhauptmann über Juda;
