Verse 43 is found in chapter 20 of 1 Kings. A prophet receives a symbolic wound and causes Ahab to pronounce his own judgment through a story about a prisoner who was supposed to be guarded. He then announces that Ahab will pay for allowing Ben-hadad to escape. The episode again uses an indirect form of prophetic confrontation, similar to Nathan’s method with David. Ahab discovers that political mercy can constitute disobedience when it contradicts a divine command.
