And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

Verse 15 is found in chapter 21 of 1 Kings. Ahab desires Naboth’s vineyard and becomes distressed when Naboth refuses to sell it because it represents the inheritance received from his ancestors. Jezebel then organizes a false trial, accuses Naboth, and secures his execution. Ahab takes possession of the vineyard. The narrative presents the abuse of royal power against a citizen defending his family inheritance. The seizure of the land turns the king’s greed into a violation of justice and property within Israel.
