Verse 39 is found in chapter 22 of 1 Kings. Ahab enters battle in disguise, while Jehoshaphat retains his royal garments. The Syrians initially pursue Jehoshaphat, but eventually an arrow shot at random mortally wounds Ahab. His attempt to avoid the prophecy through disguise fails. The king’s death occurs in a way that emphasizes that Micaiah’s announced word cannot be nullified through human strategies.
