And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Verse 11 is found in chapter 3 of 1 Kings. At Gibeon, God appears to Solomon in a dream and allows him to ask for whatever he desires. Solomon requests an understanding heart to judge the people, recognizing that his responsibility exceeds his experience. God responds by granting him wisdom and also riches and honor. The request is theologically significant because Solomon does not ask for long life, riches, or military victory, but for the ability to discern between good and evil while governing.

Dios le dijo: «Como has pedido esto y no has pedido para ti una larga vida, ni has pedido riquezas, ni has pedido la vida de tus enemigos, sino entendimiento para escuchar y hacer justicia,
Et Dieu lui dit: Puisque c'est là ce que tu demandes, puisque tu ne demandes pour toi ni une longue vie, ni les richesses, ni la mort de tes ennemis, et que tu demandes de l'intelligence pour exercer la justice,
E Iddio gli disse: Perciocchè tu hai chiesta questa cosa, e non hai chiesta lunga vita, nè ricchezze, nè la vita de’ tuoi nemici; anzi hai chiesto di avere intelletto per essere intendente a giudicare; ecco, io fo secondo la tua parola;
E disse-lhe Deus: Porquanto pediste isso, e não pediste para ti muitos dias, nem pediste para ti riquezas, nem pediste a vida de teus inimigos; mas pediste para ti entendimento, para discernires o que é justo;
上帝對他說:「你既然求這事,不為自己求壽、求富,也不求滅絕你仇敵的性命,只求能明辨,可以聽訟,
