Verse 10 is found in chapter 6 of 1 Kings. Solomon begins building the temple in the fourth year of his reign. Its dimensions and materials reveal a carefully designed building intended to house the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. The narrator places the beginning of the work within the history of the exodus and Israel’s arrival in the land. The temple represents the culmination of a process through which the Lord’s cultic presence receives a permanent center in Jerusalem.
