And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of Israel? But he answered him not that day.
A verse can bring hope. Share this message of faith with someone you care about.
Verse 37 is found in chapter 14 of 1 Samuel. Saul attempts to consult God but receives no answer. By attributing the silence to a sin committed during the day, he uses a lot to establish that Jonathan is responsible for having eaten. The people intervene and prevent Saul from executing his own son. The scene reveals a contradiction in Saul’s leadership: his concern for fulfilling an oath threatens the life of the very person who contributed decisively to the victory. The episode deepens the contrast between external obedience and spiritual discernment.
