Verse 33 is found in chapter 15 of 1 Samuel. Saul confesses his sin, but his concern remains tied to his reputation before the elders and the people. Samuel maintains the judgment against the kingdom and finally executes Agag. He then separates from Saul and mourns for him. The rupture between them is not merely personal: it represents the loss of prophetic support for Israel’s first king. The chapter ends by preparing the search for a new king whose relationship with God will be described differently.
