Verse 10 is found in chapter 19 of 1 Samuel. Another victory over the Philistines reactivates Saul’s jealousy, and he attempts to spear David. Michal helps David escape and uses an image to make it appear that he remains in bed. The repeated assassination attempt shows that Saul’s promise has not transformed his heart. David definitively moves from royal servant to fugitive. Michal’s protection also introduces a domestic element into a story dominated by military and political conflicts.
