So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 19 of 1 Samuel. David flees to Ramah and joins Samuel. When Saul’s messengers arrive to capture him, the Spirit of God comes upon them and they begin prophesying. Saul later experiences the same phenomenon. The account emphasizes that God’s authority can frustrate the king’s plans of persecution. Saul still possesses political power, but cannot control divine action. The scene reconnects David with Samuel and reinforces the prophetic role as a place of protection from royal violence.
