Verse 30 is found in chapter 2 of 1 Samuel. A man of God announces to Eli that his priestly house will be judged because he has honored his sons above the Lord. The sentence does not eliminate the value of the priesthood as an institution, but establishes that ministerial privilege is subordinate to faithfulness. The announcement of a faithful priest whose house will be established introduces an expectation that extends beyond Eli’s family.
