Verse 17 is found in chapter 25 of 1 Samuel. One of the servants informs Abigail of the danger caused by Nabal’s response. Abigail acts quickly to prevent a massacre and recognizes that David is destined to fight the Lord’s battles. Her intervention introduces a moral perspective that David had temporarily lost in his anger. Abigail’s decision is especially significant because it prevents David from taking personal revenge and shedding unnecessary blood. The future king is confronted with the need to distinguish justice from retaliation.
