Verse 15 is found in chapter 6 of 1 Samuel. The ark is placed on a new cart and returned with gold offerings representing the plagues suffered. The ark’s movement toward Beth-shemesh confirms to the Philistines that the disaster was connected to the presence of Israel’s God. The narrative uses the ark’s return to show that divine glory does not depend on Israel’s political control. God can defend the holiness of his name even in foreign territory and without Israelite military intervention.
