Verse 8 is found in chapter 14 of 2 Chronicles. Asa begins to reign and removes foreign altars and illegitimate places of worship. The kingdom enjoys a period of peace during which Asa takes the opportunity to fortify cities. Religious reform and defensive preparation appear together, showing that the kingdom’s security is understood within a renewal of faithfulness to God.
