Verse 16 is found in chapter 15 of 2 Chronicles. Asa even removes Maacah from her position as queen mother because of her idolatry. The account shows the seriousness of the reform: family authority does not protect a religious practice considered incompatible with faithfulness to God. The result is a period of peace for Judah.
