Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.

Verse 1 is found in chapter 24 of 2 Chronicles. Joash begins repairing the temple under Jehoiada’s direction. When the initial collection does not proceed adequately, a chest specifically intended for contributions is established. The money collected allows the temple to be repaired and its utensils renewed. The reform shows the relationship between financial administration and maintenance of worship.
