Verse 16 is found in chapter 24 of 2 Chronicles. After Jehoiada’s death, Judah’s leaders abandon the Lord and serve idols. Zechariah, son of Jehoiada, denounces the transgression and is killed by the king’s order. The contrast with Joash’s earlier faithfulness is radical and shows how excessive dependence on a human leader does not guarantee permanent faithfulness to God.
