Verse 4 is found in chapter 25 of 2 Chronicles. Amaziah begins his reign and executes those responsible for his father’s death, but respects their children according to the law. The detail shows that the king limits personal vengeance through a legal principle protecting the descendants of the guilty. Partial obedience to the law appears in contrast with Amaziah’s later decisions.
