For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but he helped him not.

Verse 21 is found in chapter 28 of 2 Chronicles. Ahaz seeks help from Assyria, but the alliance does not produce the expected deliverance. Instead, the king intensifies his idolatry and profanes the temple utensils. The chapter concludes with his death without being buried in the tombs of the kings. The national crisis is repeatedly connected with the decision to abandon the Lord.
