But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.

Verse 2 is found in chapter 11 of 2 Kings. Athaliah attempts to destroy Judah’s royal descendants after the death of her son, but Jehosheba rescues Joash and keeps him hidden for six years. The scene presents a direct threat to the continuity of David’s house. While Athaliah appears to control the kingdom, the legitimate heir remains alive in secret. The narrative creates an important theological tension: the promise concerning the Davidic dynasty appears endangered, but the preservation of the child shows that the continuity of the royal line does not depend exclusively on the political ability of those occupying the throne.
