Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which belonged to Judah, for Israel, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Verse 28 is found in chapter 14 of 2 Kings. Jeroboam II reigns during a period of expansion and territorial recovery for Israel. The narrator attributes the restoration of the borders to the word announced by Jonah son of Amittai, showing that political events are interpreted from the prophetic perspective. Yet prosperity coexists with the continuation of Jeroboam’s sin. The section ends with the king’s death and the transition to Zechariah. The contrast between national success and spiritual failure prepares one of the great themes of the following chapters: a kingdom can experience political recovery while structurally approaching its downfall.
