Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Verse 19 is found in chapter 16 of 2 Kings. Ahaz continues altering elements of the temple and uses structures and vessels to modify the arrangement of worship. At the end of the chapter, his death and Hezekiah’s succession prepare a decisive contrast. Ahaz’s actions represent one of the strongest moments of religious accommodation to foreign powers in Judah. The account does not present international politics and cultic reform as independent matters: dependence on Assyria is also reflected in the way Ahaz reorganizes the sacred space.
