And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

Verse 14 is found in chapter 19 of 2 Kings. The Rabshakeh returns after Sennacherib has moved elsewhere and sends another intimidating message. Hezekiah takes the letter to the temple and spreads it before the Lord. His prayer recognizes God’s greatness and the difference between the Lord and the nations’ idols, which are human works incapable of saving. Yet the king does not merely ask for personal survival: he asks God to act so that all kingdoms may know that the Lord alone is God. The political crisis thus becomes a theological prayer about divine sovereignty.

Ezéchias prit la lettre de la main des messagers, et la lut. Puis il monta à la maison de l'Eternel, et la déploya devant l'Eternel,
Quando Ezechia ebbe ricevute quelle lettere, per mano di que’ messi, e le ebbe lette, egli salì alla Casa del Signore, e le spiegò nel cospetto del Signore;
Recebendo, pois, Ezequias as cartas das mãos dos mensageiros e lendo-as, subiu à casa do SENHOR; e Ezequias as estendeu perante o SENHOR.
