Verse 17 is found in chapter 19 of 2 Kings. The Rabshakeh returns after Sennacherib has moved elsewhere and sends another intimidating message. Hezekiah takes the letter to the temple and spreads it before the Lord. His prayer recognizes God’s greatness and the difference between the Lord and the nations’ idols, which are human works incapable of saving. Yet the king does not merely ask for personal survival: he asks God to act so that all kingdoms may know that the Lord alone is God. The political crisis thus becomes a theological prayer about divine sovereignty.

Es verdad, oh Jehová, que los reyes de Asiria han destruido las gentes y sus tierras;
Es verdad, Jehová, que los reyes de Asiria han devastado las naciones y sus tierras,
Il est vrai, ô Eternel! que les rois d'Assyrie ont détruit les nations et ravagé leurs pays,
Egli è vero, Signore, che i re degli Assiri hanno distrutte quelle genti ed i lor paesi;
Verdade é, ó SENHOR, que os reis da Assíria assolaram as nações e as suas terras.
