Verse 24 is found in chapter 2 of 2 Kings. Elisha’s first public acts show that his ministry addresses both communal problems and situations involving everyday life. The waters of Jericho are healed through prophetic intervention, while the episode involving the youths of Bethel shows the consequences of despising prophetic authority. The contrast is deliberate: Elisha appears as an instrument of restoration when God’s word is received and as a figure whose authority cannot be treated with contempt. The chapter ends by showing that the new prophetic ministry has been fully established.
