Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

Verse 6 is found in chapter 22 of 2 Kings. Josiah begins to reign at a very young age and receives a favorable evaluation. During his reign, repairs are undertaken on the temple. The administration of resources designated for the work receives particular attention, and the workers are treated with trust. The restoration of the building prepares the discovery that will transform the meaning of the reform. The temple, deteriorated after years of neglect and contradictory religious practices, begins to be repaired. Material renewal will reveal a much deeper need: to restore the community’s orientation toward God’s word.
