Verse 19 is found in chapter 7 of 2 Kings. The official who had doubted Elisha’s word is placed in charge of the city gate. The crowd rushing out for food tramples him to death, fulfilling the prophetic word exactly. The detail is theologically important because it distinguishes between witnessing fulfillment and personally participating in it. The man sees the abundance but does not enjoy it. The conclusion reaffirms one of the great themes of 2 Kings: the word of the Lord remains effective even when those who hear it consider what it announces impossible.
