And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.

Verse 21 is found in chapter 9 of 2 Kings. Jehu arrives at Jezreel and encounters Joram and Ahaziah. Joram asks whether there is peace, but Jehu connects the absence of peace with Jezebel’s idolatries. Joram attempts to escape and is mortally wounded. Ahaziah also dies after fleeing. The deaths fulfill the general direction of the judgment pronounced against Ahab’s house. The narrative links the dynasty’s politics, violence, and idolatry: peace cannot be defined simply as the absence of war when the power structure remains committed to practices the narrator considers rebellion against God.

Da sprach Joram: Spannt an!
Entonces Joram dijo: Unce.
