Verse 23 is found in chapter 11 of 2 Samuel. The military report reaches David, and after receiving news of Uriah’s death, the king takes Bathsheba as his wife. Superficially, David appears to have solved the problem, but the narrator concludes with a decisive evaluation: what David had done displeased the Lord. This statement shifts judgment from political perception to the divine perspective. Human concealment does not remove moral responsibility before God.
