And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

Verse 10 is found in chapter 13 of 2 Samuel. Amnon follows Jonadab’s advice and pretends to be ill so that Tamar will enter his room. She prepares food under the appearance of caring for a sick person, but the situation reveals that Amnon uses his position to create a circumstance of vulnerability. The scene prepares the subsequent assault and shows that deception is a structural element of the episode, not an accidental detail.
