Verse 11 is found in chapter 15 of 2 Samuel. After years of preparation, Absalom asks permission to go to Hebron and there openly begins the conspiracy. He sends messengers throughout the tribes and gains the support of Ahithophel, David’s counselor. Hebron has symbolic importance because it was David’s first capital. Absalom thus turns a place associated with the legitimate establishment of his father’s reign into the setting from which he attempts to seize the throne.
