For all of my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king?

Verse 28 is found in chapter 19 of 2 Samuel. Mephibosheth appears before David and explains that he did not accompany the king because Ziba deceived and abandoned him. His neglected appearance serves as narrative evidence of his mourning. David does not fully resolve the dispute, but divides the property between them. The scene again shows David’s limitations as a judge under pressure: his decisions during the crisis may have been hasty and now must be reconsidered in light of new information.
