Verse 2 is found in chapter 11 of Daniel. The vision begins by recalling heavenly support received during the reign of Darius and then describes a succession of Persian rulers and the emergence of a powerful Greek king. The rapid fragmentation of that power after reaching its greatest extent continues Daniel’s pattern: kingdoms may conquer enormous territories, but their duration and stability are limited.
