Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

Verse 1 is found in chapter 3 of Daniel. Nebuchadnezzar erects a massive image and gathers representatives from throughout the empire to inaugurate it through a public ceremony. The scene turns political loyalty into a religious test: everyone must bow when the music sounds. The later conflict arises precisely because Daniel’s friends cannot accept that obedience to imperial power includes an act of worship incompatible with their faithfulness to God.
