Verse 18 is found in chapter 5 of Daniel. Daniel initially rejects the rewards offered by the king and establishes that he will speak because he must communicate the message. Before interpreting the writing, he recalls Nebuchadnezzar’s experience and the lesson Belshazzar failed to learn: God had humbled the great king when he exalted himself. Belshazzar knew that precedent but had not humbled his heart.
