Verse 16 is found in chapter 7 of Daniel. Daniel is troubled by the vision and approaches one of the attendants to ask for an explanation. The seer’s reaction reminds the reader that apocalyptic images should not be treated as transparent symbols. Even Daniel needs interpretation. The passage introduces an important feature of the later chapters: divine revelation can be true while still requiring discernment to understand its meaning.
