Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Verse 13 is found in chapter 8 of Daniel. A conversation between heavenly beings asks how long the transgression against the sanctuary will last and answers with a period of evenings and mornings. The question introduces the theme of the limited duration of the profanation. Although interpretations of this period differ, the theological movement is clear: the devastation of the sanctuary is not presented as permanent but as a situation with an established limit.
