At that time the LORD separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.

Verse 8 is found in chapter 10 of Deuteronomy. Moses recalls the renewal of the covenant tablets after the sin of the golden calf. The new tablets represent restoration after a serious breach, while the ark again receives the testimony. Aaron continues serving as priest, and the Levites are set apart for service. The section brings together covenant restoration, priesthood, and the continuity of Israel’s mission.
