Verse 2 is found in chapter 12 of Deuteronomy. Israel must destroy the Canaanite worship sites and seek the place God will choose to establish his name. The chapter opposes the tendency to copy the nations’ religious practices and establishes the centralization of worship around the chosen sanctuary. Legitimate worship is therefore connected not to any place considered sacred by human initiative, but to the order established by God.
