Verse 7 is found in chapter 25 of Deuteronomy. Discipline by beating must be administered within specific limits to preserve the dignity of the person being punished. The ox working on the threshing floor is also protected, and family responsibility is regulated through the law of levirate marriage. These apparently diverse regulations share a concern to prevent abuse and preserve responsibilities within the community.
