In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

Verse 67 is found in chapter 28 of Deuteronomy. The final section of the curses describes disease, dispersion, and a symbolic return to Egypt. Exile represents a reversal of the exodus: the people delivered from Egypt may once again come under foreign domination because of their unfaithfulness. The chapter concludes with an extreme image of national loss, showing the seriousness of deliberately breaking the covenant.

Pela manhã dirás: Ah! quem me dera ver a noite!
