Verse 16 is found in chapter 30 of Deuteronomy. The commandment is not presented as something inaccessible or impossible to know: the word is near the people. Moses places before Israel life and death, blessing and curse, and calls them to choose life through love and obedience. The exhortation summarizes human responsibility within the covenant without presenting faithfulness as secret knowledge reserved for a few.
