Verse 29 is found in chapter 31 of Deuteronomy. Moses finishes writing the words of the law and commands that they be placed beside the ark as a witness. He acknowledges that he knows the people’s tendency to rebel even before his death. The song that will later be proclaimed will serve precisely to remind the people of their history and confront them with their future unfaithfulness.
