Verse 10 is found in chapter 4 of Deuteronomy. Moses urges Israel to listen to and practice the statutes they received. Obedience should not be understood as an arbitrary burden, but as the way to preserve life and display wisdom before the nations. God’s nearness to Israel and the uniqueness of his laws distinguish the people from other nations. The memory of Horeb establishes the foundation for obedience.
