Verse 22 is found in chapter 5 of Deuteronomy. Moses recalls that God spoke from the fire and that the people asked Moses to act as mediator because they feared dying before the divine manifestation. God approves the people’s willingness to listen and commands them to remain faithful to his commandments. Moses’ mediation thus takes on a central role in transmitting the divine word to Israel.
